We are pleased to announce the release of firmware Ver.1.10 for the flagship mirrorless camera “Nikon Z 9” on January 5, 2022 at 15:00.

With the firmware Ver.1.10 for “Z 9”, the high-speed continuous shooting time is greatly improved. When shooting at approximately 20 frames per second with “RAW (high efficiency) + JPEG BASIC (size L)” split recording, it is possible to shoot from the conventional approximately 3 seconds to the world’s longest * 1 approximately 15 seconds * 2. It will be.
Shooting is possible when shooting at approximately 20 frames / sec with split recording of “RAW (high efficiency ★) + JPEG BASIC (size L)” or “JPEG FINE (size L) + JPEG BASIC (size S)”. The time will be reduced from the conventional 3 seconds to 8 seconds * 2.

By improving the high-speed continuous shooting time, it further supports high-pixel shooting at the decisive moment of a subject moving at high speed.

In addition, we plan to add various video functions and improve operability and functions when shooting still images and videos in future firmware updates.

* The length of the burst that can be taken before the frame advance rate drops. Figures are reference values obtained via in-house measurements performed using a NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S lens and a ProGrade Digital COBALT 1700R 325GB CFexpress memory card. Burst length will drop in some circumstances, including if:
- Backup is selected for Role played by card in Slot 2 or
- ON is selected for Auto distortion control.
• Options highlighted in the Filtered playback criteria list in the PLAYBACK MENU can now also be selected and deselected by pressing the multi selector right.
• Fixed an issue that prevented optional SB-5000 flash units synchronizing with the shutter when all the following conditions were met:
- A shutter speed faster than the flash sync speed was selected with 1/200 s (Auto FP) or 1/250 s (Auto FP) chosen for Custom Setting e1 Flash sync speed in the CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU.
- The SB-5000 was controlled via radio AWL using an optional WR-R10 or WR-R11a wireless remote controller mounted on the camera.
- The flash unit was not mounted on the camera accessory shoe.

Nikon, silenciosamente, atualiza o log de atualizações de firmware da Z9, Z7 II e Zfc

Nikon quietly updated the changelog (release notes) for the last few Z camera firmware updates:

Original Nikon Z9 firmware v1.11 | Updated Nikon Z9 firmware v1.11
Original Nikon Z7 II firmware v1.31 | Updated Nikon Z7II firmware v1.31
Original Nikon Z fc firmware v1.20 | Updated Nikon Z fc firmware v1.20

The Z9 firmware update has several new lines added, while the other two updates just “gained” support for the new Nikkor Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S mirrorless lens.

From a software development point of view, it is a bad idea to add functionality to an already officially released version.

Needless to say that users will not have a clue that the release notes were updated… Just a bad practice from Nikon and I hope they will not do it again. I do not know how far back they went to update the release notes, but the Z6II camera still doesn’t have support for the new 400mm Z lens. Maybe we will finally see the long-rumored Z6II/Z7II firmware updates being officially announced next week at the 2022 CP+ show. Stay tuned!
