"First impressions: its lighter than I imagined, but balances like a dream on the D800. Holding just the lens, its very "mount" heavy. A lot of empty plastic out the front. It almost wants to tilt out of your hand when you're holding it. Focus ring is perfectly located and smooth as silk. Lens is made in Japan, the hood in China. Autofocus speed is acceptable, won't win any competitions. Shot a number of single focus and continuous focus samples. Seemed to lock quickly in low light and keep up nicely with continuous AF. The first sample files are shot handheld, then toward the end I did more comparison shots from a tripod, mirror-up, etc. It was dark when I started, so the shots are more limited than I wanted, but should give some people something to start with."

Opinião site Diglloyd:
Conclusions
It seems that Nikon really has intentionally opted for a lens design to mimic the classic soft-focus look of the 58mm f/1.2 NOCT-Nikkor, but also opted to correct certain color errors better in off-center areas. Just as clearly, there was no intent to correct the lens for high micro contrast at ƒ/1.4; the overall level of correction combined with the soft focus look in fine structures surely is intentional: the rendering style seen here cannot be anything but “by design”.

By that measure the 58mm f/1.4G is wildly successful in delivering a distinctive imaging quality long sought after by fans of high-speed lenses, particularly the NOCT-Nikkor. The creamy-smooth rendering from center to corners is free of distractions and thus exceptionally pleasing as a whole regardless of where one looks in the frame.

vs Canon

Compared to the Canon 50mm f/1.2L, the Nikon 58mm f/1.4G offers an image quality that is more consistent in its bokeh and even-ness of rendition across the frame. The photographer after this style of rendition surely has a strong new tool at his or her disposal.

O novo corpo nao me interessa neste momento. Mas esta lente, para nos que somos retrateiros dos filhos...

Review, em progressão, da Nikkor 58mm 2.4, Diglloyd.
Comparando 3 lentes. Acho que vou nela...

Conclusions
All of these lenses deliver a beautiful image and all have their field curvature / focus shift quirks, particularly the NOCT-Nikkor.

On the whole, the Nikon 58mm f/1.4G delivers a higher level of imaging quality across the frame, center to edges and corners. It controls optical aberrations of all kinds better than the NOCT and the Voigtlander 58/1.4. The NOCT is particularly trouble by lateral chromatic aberration at the edges and corners.

In terms of value, the Voigtlander 58/1.4 has its appeal at less than 1/3 the cost of the Nikon 58/1.4G (lens shade recommended at extra cost). But as good as its bokeh is, the Nikon 58/1.4G appears to better it, particularly in the ƒ/1.4 to ƒ/2.8 range.

Ultimately the lens style is a matter of taste. None of these lenses can be said to be high performers in any sense of having a flat field (minimal field curvature), nor do any of them deliver corner to corner sharpness to the corners wide open or at ƒ/2 or even ƒ/2.8. But they are all very pleasing. A photographer willing to invest an extended period in understanding the strengths of a lens can surely make beautiful images with any of them.

Mais uma conclusão de uma cena muito bem elaborada pelo Diglloyd. A nitidez em 1.4 parece muito boa!

Conclusions
Accounting for field curvature and focus shift the results remain clear: the Nikon 58mm f/1.4G is better corrected than its NOCT-Nikkor predecessor or the Voigtlander 58mm f1.4. That correction results in smoother bokeh as well as a higher overall level of performance in a more predictable zone of sharpness in total.
