Nikon released their Medium Term Management Plan for 2022-2025 (the slide presentation is here, the video presentation can be found here). Next are the details for the Imaging Business:


Direction for Imaging Products Business:

For pros/hobbyists: deploy advanced features from the Z9 across the lineup
Deploy advanced features from the Z9 across the lineup
Bolster engagement before and after purchase
Focus on apps and the cloud
Vision: Expand the possibilities for visual expression and acquire overwhelming support from all generations of fans around the world

Main points for the digital camera segment:

Concentrate management resources in high value-added products and mirrorless cameras (meet expectations of professionals and hobbyists and raise ASP 20%)
Bolster the Z mount system by expanding lens lineup (50+ lenses and a 2+ lens attach rate)
Appeal to video creators by strengthening video functions
Strengthen remote operation and automatic image capture features to meet professional needs
Focus on licensing business
Earnings plan: achieve revenue of ¥200.0B and Operating profit margin of 10% on a stable basis.

É um jargão empresarial enorme. Mas tem umas coisas que eu acho interessantes, e tem outras que eu duvido que vão acontecer. Gostei muito da história de estender recursos da Z9 pra outras câmeras. Creio que se trata do obturador eletrônico principalmente, mas um autofoco rápido em toda a linha seria uma boa.

Apps e nunvem? Não creio. Vou ter que ver pra crer.

Licenciamento de tecnologia? O que eles estão falando? Se for fazerem câmeras com API e capacidade de gerar apps, podem criar algo licenciável. Isso poderia ir em conjunto com o acima. Mas tem que ter desenvolvedores interessados. Se o licenciamento for caro, vai ser ruim. Se os apps forem caros, também. Porque, fora isso, lentes, flashes e acessórios de terceiros já existem, mesmo sem licenciamento.

E, mais importante, vender mais câmeras quando a competição não consegue vender mais por falta de componentes? Acho difícil. Ver pra crer também.
